Geometry

During the month of March, Mrs. Gagliardo’s Geometry Honor Class was assigned to create a project that required creativity and precise measurements of the objects. The originality in the class was astonishing, creating things like a towering castle, robot with glowing eyes or even the amusing SpongeBob. Students used their creativity skills along with the lesson they learned about surface area and volume.  As the class presented their creations they also voted on the best ones.  A project like that is defiantly beneficial in the student’s academic lives. Not only it lets them use their creativity and endure the lesson they just learned, putting it into a real life situation but also it gets them relaxed out of the ordinary sitting in the classroom habitat.

Congrats to the winners!

Lip Synching for the Prom

On March 2, 2011 Harrison High School held their first Lip Synching Contest.  It was another prosperous production by the Junior Prom Committee to earn money for the Junior Prom. “The contest was very successful. We earned about $7oo,” said Mrs. Ellison, a Harrison High teacher and also the person in charge of the contest. The show also included a host, Mr. Nick Landy, a history teacher, and three judges; Mr. Sabia the Geometry Teacher, Mr. DaSilva the Chorus Teacher and Ms. Jackie the Harrison High’s social worker, who at the end tallied their points together and decided who the winner is.
This contest had many humorous, well performed and impromptu acts. For instance, a junior, along with her friends, dressed up as Justin Bieber performing his song “Baby”. Some acts included girls dressing up as guys and even guys dressing up as girls. There were many group acts such as the performance of  a Spice Girls number and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Diana Ross, and loads of solo performances. Some performed several times. The Show also had a surprise performance by the teachers.
Rumors around the school indicated that Mrs. Inginito the Biology teacher and Mrs. Ronan, an Algebra 2 teacher , would perform. Those accusaations were proven false when the real surprise guests showed up on stage. Harrison High’s English department, Ms. Thomas, Ms. Gilmore and Ms. Copola, rallied up the crowd with their surprise performance including dancing and synching to Rihanna’s “I Like the Way It Hurts”, Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby” and Beastie Boys’ "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party!)".
All the performances were pleasant to watch however there could only be one winner.  As the judges tallied up their scores the crowd went wild screaming “Pinto and the Pintetts” referring to Jonathan Pinto and the four junior girls who synched and danced to Otis Redding’s “Respect”. What the crowd wants the crown gets. The first place was awarded to Pinto and the Pintetts, the second place was awareded to the Cheerleaders’ Spice Girls Performance and the third Place to a group that synched and danced to “Aint No Mountain High Enough”. The Junior Prom Committee once again had a successful event. “It was definatly a freat time to spend  my evening, it was very hilarious and I got the chance to sing along,” says a sophomore, Patrycja Jackowska.

Dodgeball Tournament

The highlight of this week at Harrison High was the Dodgeball Tournament. The event took place in the Harrison High gym on Thursday night. Numerous amount of students, parents and neighbors showed up for the support. Not only they enjoyed an amusing game of dodgeball between students and teachers but they also helped to support the junior prom committee by paying their $5 ticket. The bleachers were brimful, many had to stand to watch the game. The Junior Prom Committee did a great job organizing the successful tournament, looks like the prom is very much on again.

Congrats to Harrison High's new champions The Ball Busters!
